We want your visit to be enjoyable and we want you to win.
The way fans bet on horse racing is called "pari-mutuel wagering". That means you are betting against the other fans, and you set the odds. You are not betting against the track.
The track's role is to handle the pool of money bet and redistribute the money to the winners.
Good Luck!

It's easy and it's fun. and our entire staff is ready to help you or answer questions at any time.
Rockingham provides both teller-staffed windows and self-service wagering machines. Whichever you choose, the way to bet is the same.
And it's as easy as A, B, C. You place your bet by:
A. The dollar amount.
B. The type of bet.
C. The horse's program number.
For example: "$5 to win on Number 1."
When betting full-card simulcasting on races from other tracks, state the name of the track you select before the dollar amount.
Winning tickets may be cashed at any window on the day of the race or up to one year later.
Voucher Wagering
Vouchers are just like cash, but are easier, faster and more convenient to use.
Vouchers, which can be exchanged for any amount of cash at the teller windows or at the self-service machines, are good at both the windows and in the machines.
When you are through wagering at the end of your visit, simply cash in the balance of your voucher at any teller window.

THE BASIC BETS WIN...Bet a horse to win, and if he finishes first, you collect.

PLACE...Bet a horse to place, and if he finishes first or second, you collect.

SHOW...Bet a horse to show, and if he finishes first or second, or third, you collect.

ACROSS THE BOARD...Betting to win, place and show (three separate bets) $2 across the board on Number 1 is the same as $2 to win, $2 to place, and $2 to show.

DAILY DOUBLE...Pick the winner of both the first and second races, and you collect. This is a very popular bet, and Rockingham offers an early Daily Double on the first and second races, and a late Daily Double near the end of the day's races.

THE EXOTIC BETS...The exotic wagers require you to correctly pick the exact order of finish of more than one horse, and sometimes also in more than one race. The risk is higher, but the reward (or payoff) is greater.

PERFECTA...You win by picking the first two horses to cross the finish line in exact, or perfect, order. Example: If you bet a "$5 Perfecta Number 5 and 6",you collect if horses 5 and 6 finish first and second. Can also be called an Exacta.

TRIFECTA-You win by picking the first three horses to cross the finish line in exact order. Example: If youbet a "$5 Trifecta Number 5, 6, and 7", you collect if 5-6-7 horses cross the finish line in exact order. You can greatly improve your chance of winning if you box, key or wheel your picks. See the section on boxes and wheels.

TWIN TRIFECTA-You win by picking the first three horses to cross the finish line in exact order in both of two designated races. Only those who correctly pick the trifecta finish on the first race may exchange their tickets for a second-half twin trifecta ticket. Ifno one correctly picks the twin trifecta, the poolis carried over until the next racing day, or until someonewins. The minimum twin trifecta bet is $3.

SUPERPERFECTA-You win by picking the first four horses to cross the finish line in exact order. Example: If you bet a "$5 Superfecta Number 5,6,7 and 8", you win if the 5-6-7-8 horses cross the finish line in that order. If no one correctly selects all four finishers, the payoff goes to those who picked the first three,

PICK 3-The Pick 3 is like the Daily Double, but you win if you pick the winner in three successive designated races, usually the fourth, fifth and sixth races. If your horse is scratched in any lef of the Pick 3 afterwagering closes, you will be awarded the post time favorite. If no one correctly selects all three winners, there is a consolation payoff for those with the next number of winners.
BOXES AND WHEELS...You can increase your chances of winning with boxes and wheels because they allow you to combine several bets all on one ticket.

A BOX...combines your picks to finish first and second in every possible combination. Example: if you bet a "Trifecta box of 4-5-6", you win if those three horses finish first, second, or third in any order. Perfecta, trifecta, twin trifecta and superfecta wagers can all be boxed.

A WHEEL...combines one horse with all of the other horses in the race. Example: if you bet a "Perfecta Wheel 3-all", you win if the Number 3 horse wins, no matter which of the rest of the field comes in second. Perfecta, trifectas, twin trifectas, and superfectas may all be wheeled.

A PARTIAL WHEEL...lets you pick only some of the possible combinations, and costs less than a complete wheel. Example: if you bet a "Perfecta partial wheel Number 3 with the 1-2-4", you win if the 3 wins and 1, 2, or 4 horse finishes second.

There is a $1 minimum bet available for boxes, wheels and partial wheels on perfecta, trifecta, superfecta and Pick 3 bets.
